Made connections lead me to a new venue. A house venue called The Cellar Door in Annandale, VA. Haven't been to a house show in long time. All four bands - Pigeon Down (ex-members of Left Unsaide, VA???), Slow Mover
(Boston), Hulk Smash
(Philadelphia), and Gradius
(Annandale) - played well and were very friendly to me as an outsider. Everyone else I talked to at the show was classy. A great experience. AND... I got a "chainsaw through the head" shirt from Slow Mover
Recorded at 16-bit 44.1kHz wav using the internal microphones on a Tascam DR-40
. Mixed and rendered in Reaper
to a 320 kbps mp3.
One of the best things about going to live shows put on by touring bands is having the opportunity to purchase music directly from the artist. One of the best things about having an album in your hand of the band of whose performance you are witnessing in the flesh is that you can stare at the artwork and let it marry the sound. This worked exceptionally well at this Tomahawk
concert. Then you get to listen to the album
during your car ride home. What a treat!
I noticed that all of us Mike Patton fans at the show look pretty similar. The rest of the attendees wearing thick black framed glasses I assume were Dinosaur Jr. fans.
Recorded using a Tascam DR-40
with its internal mics at 16-bit 44.1 wav. Mixed and rendered with Reaper, and uploaded at 320 kbps mp3.
It's been a while since my last post, but what can I say? Things got busy. Also, it's been almost a month since this concert went down at Springfield's legendary Empire
. Unfortunately, I arrived at the venue when Nile
was just getting started, so I missed all of the great bands that opened for them. Nile played two sets, so even though I showed up late, it was well worth the ticket cost.
Recorded using the built-in mics on a Tascam DR-40
at 44.1k, 24bit. Processed and sweetened using the Reaper DAW
. Posted as a 320kbps MP3.
What does it all mean? Nothing. Listen to the audio!
I almost forgot to include that Alexandria, VA's Port City Brewing
was co-hosting the event and offering specials on their beers, which I think are pretty darn good. I had their American Porter and, my favorite, the Essential Pale Ale.
